NEW WEBSITE FOR IMPROVED ACCESS TO CURRENT MEDICAL GUIDELINES

University of California System: University of California, San Francisco
posted on 07/18/2008

BACKGROUND: Currently, there is no single resource to which clinicians can go to get access to medical guidelines and get recommendations to clinical questions. While some online sources and textbooks are available, they offer contents of variable quality, frequently with an unsubstantiated evidence-base.

TECHNOLOGY: UCSF inventors have created an internet resource for clinicians looking for high quality evidence and direct answers along with current recommendations to important clinical questions, all from the same place in a user-friendly format.

Suggested Uses

• Clinical tool for improved patient treatment

Advantages

• No other website allows a person to search within a guidelines document for recommendation
• User ratings allow independent evaluation of recommendations by clinicians
