Description: Dr. Losordo has discovered that heart and related disorders can be prevented or treated by administering a therapeutically effective amount of at least one nucleic acid that encodes at least one morphogen. The invention further provides for administration of at least one of the endothelial cells (Ecs) and endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) which is believed to assist practice of the invention in certain settings. It has been found that administration of morphogen according to the invention facilitates a downstream cascade of one or more desirable trophic factors which can help the severity of or in some cases eliminate the disorders. The invention has been demonstrated in several animal models.
