Detailed Description

A device measuring approximately 14.5 X 8 X 4 cm, designed to serve as an interface between an adaptive switch (with a normally open switch closure) and sources of stimulation (e.g., vibrator, CD player, mechanical toy). The interface was designed to enable evidence-based evaluation of such switch use. The interface records and displays records and displays:

  • total use (session) time
  • cumulative duration of switch closure per use
  • number of switch closures per use

The interface was designed to enable environmental control in novel ways. It permits switch closures to:

  • initiate operation of a source of stimulation
  • initiate discontinuation of a source of stimulation
  • toggle between two sources of stimulation

The interface has an on/off switch, a pause switch, and an output port for sending event data to devices that can log data in real time for post-session analyses (labeled Hobo Output in the picture).
