Monolithic High Voltage Impulse Amplifier Using HBT

Lehigh University Office of Technology Transfer
posted on 10/15/2009

A novel amplifier has been developed that is capable of producing significantly more power in comparison to currently existing amplifiers. The given impulse amplifier is able to generate narrow impulses with high amplitudes, high gain, high efficiency, and is compact in size. The amplifier also contains additional control circuits designed for fine-tuning the pulse width and amplitude.

ADVANTAGES
  • High impulse voltage with narrow width across load
  • Small circuit area (requiring less space)
  • Inherent stability due to circuit having no gain outside the impulse region
  • Pulse width able to be varied by adjusting quiescient bias voltage
  • Output stage consumes minimal power as very low current flows to output devices

APPLICATIONS
  • ultra-wideband (UWB) sensor
  • communications
  • impulse-based UWB systems

STATUS OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

A international phase patent cooperation treaty (PCT) has been filed.
