Massachusetts General Hospital
posted on 05/24/2011

Technology: The technology is a deformable soft lens that is used in tandem with conventional endoscopes, to improve visibility while performing minimally invasive surgical procedures. The device mechanically displaces obstructive fluids and particulate matter, creating a clear view of the surgical field for the clinician. This device overcomes the long-standing problem of maintaining continuous visibility due to blood, bile, or other matter obstructing the clinicians view during surgical and diagnostic procedures. Applications: - Customizable, attaches to a number of different scopes - Gastric Ulcer Surgery - Colonoscopy - Cardiovascular - Intra vascular Advantages: - Creates a clear view of any surgical area - Biocompatible; Disposable - Easy to use with conventional instruments, no special training needed - Less invasive effect, reduced bleeding and quicker patient recovery - Shorter procedure time, potential higher volume of procedures
