Preserving Viability of Photoreceptor Cells

Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary
posted on 01/07/2009

Calcineurin activation and the presence of calcineurin is increased in the retina following retinal detachment. The calcineurin pathway and modulation/inhibition of the cascade is described, including various methods and compositions. Preserving viability of photoreceptor cells has implications for retinal detachment, retinal ischemia, pathological myopia, hemorrhage, trauma, preservation of vision, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, CNV, and other retinal disorders.
