Detailed Description

Researchers from Mississippi State University’s Department of Food Science, Nutrition, and Health Promotion have developed a single test-tube, rapid test kit for Salmonella detection.

The Problem: Salmonella is the most frequent cause of food borne illness; expected to be responsible for 1.4 million food poisonings in the U.S. annually, that can lead to short and long term ailment that could cost the peanut, tomato, egg, and other industries billions of dollars a year.

Our Solution: A novel Salmonella detection kit has been developed to rapidly detect the presence of Salmonella in complex, mixed cell systems in food handling, industrial, or laboratory environments. The unique detection mechanism is capable of exhibiting the presence of Salmonella in the sample without the use of any additional equipment. The test
kit can be stored for long periods at room temperature without losing its effectiveness.
