Innovation

Antenna structure based upon a generalized Hausdorff Design Approach

Michigan Technological University
posted on 12/23/2011

An approach to antenna design optimizes gain, beam pattern, polarization response, and other qualities through self-replicating patterns based upon iterative transformations and candidate geometric shapes.

Suggested Uses

Used for reconfiguring a radio-frequency (RF) antenna array pattern.

Advantages

The method forms the self-affine hausdorff structure which enables directionality to be adjusted independent of orientation of an object during use. The method effectively responds to gain, frequency response, polarization response and operational characteristics, and enhances variability and design freedom.

Innovation Details

Detailed Description

The method involves providing a substrate with a multiplicity of electrically conductive components. An antenna structure is developed for a desired application. The electrically conductive components are arranged in form of an inchoate antenna pattern or a regular array. The electrically conductive components are interconnected to a transmitter or a receiver to form a self-affine hausdorff structure.
