Progressive and Variable Power Fresnel Prisms

The Research Foundation of the State University of New York
posted on 07/16/2009

Variable power or progressive power Fresnel prisms have been designed to maintain a constant prism correction for binocular vision conditions, such as, diplopia and strabismus. They are intended for correction of imbalances and for use in vision training and therapy.

Advantages

The advantage of the progressive prism is that it varies in power across its aperture to offset the prismatic effect of the lens. Thus the effective prism correction will be maintained for all directions of gaze.
