A System to Measure Behavioral Activity of Rodents in Their Home-Cage
University of Rochester
posted on 06/15/2010
This invention relates to a simple and economical activity monitoring system for rodents while in their home-cage. The unique system construction helps dampen vibrations from the rack or table the unit sits on while accentuating movements of the subjects within the home cage. Rodent activity is picked up by a sensor and relayed to a PC for analysis and archiving using customized software.
Suggested Uses
The system would replace current methods for measuring activity (e.g., line crossings) and play (e.g., video scoring) thereby increasing throughput, allowing for screening of compounds (e.g., pharmacological or toxicological) that affect these behaviors.
Advantages
The system would replace current methods for measuring activity (e.g., line crossings) and play (e.g., video scoring) thereby increasing throughput, allowing for screening of compounds (e.g., pharmacological or toxicological) that affect these behaviors.
