Fluorochemical Liquid Augmented Cryosurgery

Temple University
posted on 08/05/2011

Perfluorochemical cryosurgery represents a fundamental platform technology that can be used for a wide variety of clinical cryosurgical applications. Perfluorochemical (PFC) liquids are biologically non-toxic substances that, in varying forms, are currently used as artificial blood substitutes, ventilatory agents in the lung, and contrast agents for CT, MRI, and US imaging. Their unique chemical characteristics allow them to remain in a liquid state at extremely low temperatures, ideal for utilization as cryosurgical agents. Accordingly, PFC cryosurgery employs the concept of administering extremely low temperature fluids into various tissues, organs, and or spaces to obliterate a wide variety of pathological processes including but not limited to cancer, benign tumors, and inflammatory lesions.

Suggested Uses

Endometrial Cryoablation, Esophageal Cryoablation, Cryoangioplasty, Cryodebridement, and Cryodiscectomy.
