UC Merced emphasizes cutting-edge interdisciplinary research grounded in the natural sciences, in engineering, and in medicine. UC Merced is host to the Center for Computational Biology and the Imaging and Microscopy Facility, and there are plans to establish the Biomedical Sciences Research Institute and the Merced Energy Research Institute.
