University of California System: University of California, Merced
The University of California, Merced (“UC Merced”), located in California’s fastest growing region, the San Joaquin Valley, stands as the embodiment of the promise of California’s future. As the first American research university to be built in the 21st century (with the campus opening in 2005), UC Merced is uniquely positioned to pioneer new ways to foster innovation, technology transfer, and new businesses in support of its mission of education, research and public service. As the tenth campus of the University of California system, UC Merced joins in the University’s unparalleled history of accomplishment—a history that sets high standards for UC Merced to live up to.
UC Merced emphasizes cutting-edge interdisciplinary research grounded in the natural sciences, in engineering, and in medicine. UC Merced is host to the Center for Computational Biology and the Imaging and Microscopy Facility, and there are plans to establish the Biomedical Sciences Research Institute and the Merced Energy Research Institute.
UC Merced is strongly committed to building relationships with environment-friendly industries to bring the benefits of its research to the community. The UC Merced Office of Research plays a key role in this effort, coordinating technology transfer through its Office of Technology Transfer (with the assistance of UC’s systemwide Innovation Alliances and Services office) and coordinating industry sponsorship of research through its Sponsored Projects Office.
