Detailed Description
This tool, developed specifically for Gamma Knife and Gamma- Knife Perfexion stereotactic radiosurgery applications, allows the pre-planning of head-frame placement and treatment protocol prior to the day of treatment. The purpose of using this software is to avoid collision and warnings issued by the treatment planning software just prior to actual treatment. This could result in head-frame re-positioning, additional registration scans and treatment planning, and possibly sending the patient home without the procedure being performed. The software allows the user to position and fuse virtual Leksell and re-locatable head frames to CT or MR data sets of the patient that are already available.
Virtual beam-shots verify that the head-frame position is optimal and the output is used by the neuro-oncologist to confidently position the actual head-frame on the day of treatment. The output of the software may also be used for pretreatment planning within the Gamma Knife TPS for complicated cases.
The software is user-friendly, stand-alone, light-weight and PC-based, and does not require the TPS, workstations or special staff. It is available for world-wide exclusive licensing.
