This invention relates to a method of treating diseases characterized by excessive cell growth by co-administering one or more retinoids with one or more estradiol metabolites or methoxyestrones.

Renal diseases, cancer
Skin diseases
Pulmonary diseases
Pulmonary hypertension
Diseases of excessive vascular smooth muscle cell growth
Diseases of excessive fibroblast cell growth

Advantages

Combination of methoxyestradiol with retinoic acid synergistically increases activity and increases efficacy
Estradiol metabolites retain little estrogenic activity and are therefore believed to be safe
