Markers of Prognosis and Therapy in Carcinomas

Cancer cells can evade therapies as a result of defects in the DNA damage response. This invention provides a biomarker for determining which cancers have a specific genetic feature that suggests that they will respond to a specific adjunctive biologic pathway inhibitor to facilitate sensitivity and reduce resistance to radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy.

Suggested Uses

  • Determination of a selective population of cancer patients more likely to respond to radiation and/or chemotherapy with the addition of a CHEK1 inhibitor to their treatment regimen.
  • Use in Head and Neck carcinoma and possibly other tumors such as carcinomas, melanoma and multiple myeloma.

Advantages

  • Biomarker can identify tumors that will responsive to CHEK1 inhibitors
  • Biomarker can be easily detected by several molecular genetic assays
  • Biomarker also may serve as a prognostic marker for head and neck cancers as well as other carcinomas
